Endodontics, or root canal treatment, is an effective way to save a tooth with irreversible pulpitis. The dentist makes the treatment decision based on an examination and an X-ray. Although some patients think that such a tooth is "no longer of any use", in reality it can still serve for many years after proper treatment.
